Since the reform and opening up over 20 years ago, the speedy growth brings about a thorough change in China¡¯s social and economic structure, which manifests continuous improvement in overall national strength and people¡¯s living standards, a sustained increase in consumer market demand and rapid development in various industries, particularly heavy and chemical industries such as steel, automobile, petrochemical, power supply and building materials. These industries¡¯ growth makes great demands of the machinery industry, while the massive infrastructure construction nationwide further expands the market of mechanical products, bringing on a good opportunity for the development of the industry.
Now the world¡¯s machinery industry is becoming concentrated in developing countries like China. The industry is moving toward manufacture automatization, precision engineering manufacture, conventional processing method improvement and unconventional processing method application, combining the traditional technology basis and achievements in machinery, electronics, information, materials, energy and modern management, which leaves sufficient space for development.
As an important province in Southwest China (see Fig.1), Sichuan has always been playing a significant role in the country¡¯s economy and culture. After development over 50 years since the P. R. C was founded, the machinery industry, which presents an obvious advantage and huge potential, has turned into one of the pillar industries in the province. It has so far established product chains and industry cluster, which involves heavy-duty machinery, complete set of large engineering construction equipment, communication and transportation equipment, chemical equipment and environment protection equipment with those key enterprises and competitive products as the flagship and heavy-duty power generating equipment and complete set of large metallurgical & chemical equipment as representative products. It has a complete category and a research & production system that features regional advantage and uniqueness. Additionally it is at present one of the dominant among the whole industrial system in Sichuan and can be worthy of the top in West China. These all form enormous potentiality for it to achieve leap-forward development in the near future. |
